In her beautiful new memoir, BRILLIANT DISGUISE, Susan Kellam wraps her own rock-and-roll odyssey around her journey to understand family upheaval. Originally from Baltimore, Kellam’s story is rooted in the city, demonstrating the way the place served as the backdrop for difficult times and, simultaneously, as the place where her own unfolding in music and journalism began.
Stop by the Ivy between 5-7pm on Friday, June 21st to meet Susan and talk with her about the book, and have your copy signed. We’ll have a pop-up bar (with sodas) from Bird in Hand.

After a childhood spent in Baltimore, Susan Kellam started her career at Rolling Stone magazine when typewriters were still being flung across offices. Eventually leaving the rock-and-roll world for straight journalism, her work has appeared in the Baltimore Sun, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Washingtonian magazine, Congressional Quarterly, and numerous other places. She finished her full-time career as senior communications expert on domestic policy at the Brookings Institution before moving to a saltwater farm in Maine.
